variations and tips

There are so many fun ways to mix up this easy hot chocolate recipe! Here are a few ideas:

Cinnamon Spiced Hot Chocolate – Mix in a teaspoon of cinnamon, and/or a pinch of nutmeg or cayenne for a warm spicy addition.

Chai Hot Chocolate – Add a chai tea bag to the crockpot while the ingredients are cooking. Remove the tea bag after 1 hour. It’s so good!

Mocha Hot Chocolate – An ounce of espresso or 1/2 cup of strongly brewed coffee can be added to the crockpot at the start of cooking. The coffee flavors complement the dark chocolate!

Peppermint Hot Chocolate – This is one of our personal favorites! Instead of vanilla, use 1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract or top with crushed candy canes.

Orange Hot Chocolate – Zest from a fresh orange can be added to this Crockpot Hot Chocolate recipe for a bright and aromatic surprise flavor.

Maple Hot Chocolate – This one’s SO good! Substitute maple syrup for the brown sugar in the ingredients. For additional strength of maple flavor, you can also add 1/2 teaspoon of maple extract.

Such a fun idea! I’ve never made cocoa in a crockpot. This would be neat to make and have simmering while we have guests over.
