Buttermilk French Toast that's easy to make and perfect for brunch! Thick, freshly sliced bread soaked in a vanilla buttermilk egg mixture, then cooked to golden perfection with melted butter. 1 cup buttermilk 1 teaspoon vanilla 4 large eggs 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon salt 8 slices bread 1/2" - 3/4" thick 1 Tablespoon butter
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
In a small bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vanilla, eggs, sugar, and salt.
Transfer the mixture to a pie pan or wide rim shallow bowl. Place a wire rack one of the baking sheets.
Soak each piece of bread for 30 seconds on each side, then transfer to the baking sheet.
Let rest for 2 minutes.
Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.
Cook the slices of bread for about 2 minutes on each side (adding butter as needed to prevent sticking), then transfer to the other baking sheet.
Once full, place the baking sheet in the oven for about 4-5 minutes.
