Ingredients

  • 1 ounce brewed espresso
  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 1 1/2 ounce Kahlúa
  • 1 ounces chocolate liqueur
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 ounce chocolate sauce
  • shaved chocolate and star anise for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Brew the espresso and set aside to let cool a bit.
  • Optional: coat the rim of a glass in a thin layer extra chocolate sauce and dip into a bowl full of shaved chocolate. Set aside.
  • Combine the vodka, Kahlúa, chocolate liqueur, vanilla, chocolate sauce, and espresso with ice in a cocktail shaker.
  • Add the lid and shake vigorously.
  • Strain the cocktail into the glass, then use a spoon to add any extra foam inside of the cocktail shaker on top of the drink.
  • Top with extra chocolate shavings a star anise, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Strong coffee or brewed espresso powder work great, too.
  • Feel free to adjust the chocolate rim on the glass to taste. You can rim the entire thing with chocolate sauce and chocolate shavings, or just add a little bit to one section.
