This Chocolate Pecan Pie recipe is one of our favorite twists on a classic holiday dessert! Made with crunchy pecans, plenty of chocolate chips, and a decadent, gooey filling, every bite is sweet, nutty, and full of chocolate flavor. It looks super impressive but is secretly SO easy to make with a store-bought pie crust and just 10 minutes of prep time. We love serving it for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or anytime we need an easy dessert that’s guaranteed to disappear fast!

Ingredients

  • Pie Crust – We like to keep things easy with a premade pie crust, but our homemade pie crust works well, too. We recommend using a deep-dish crust to make sure there’s plenty of room for the filling.
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Semisweet Chocolate Chips – We use these both melted in the filling and stirred in whole for plenty of chocolate flavor and a bit of texture in every bite.
  • Dark Corn Syrup – This creates the sweet, gooey taste and texture we look for in classic pecan pie recipes.
  • Dark Brown Sugar – This adds sweetness and a caramel-like flavor.
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla
  • Salt – Just a pinch helps enhance the chocolate flavor and balances the sweetness of the filling.
  • Pecans – You can’t have a pecan pie without pecans! We use pecan halves and distribute them evenly throughout the filling.

How to Make Chocolate Pecan Pie

Without the need to knead and roll out pie dough, this recipe comes together super quickly with simple steps. You’ll need a couple of large bowls and a rimmed sheet pan. Here’s how to make Chocolate Pecan Pie:

  1. Melt the chocolate – Heat butter and chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring every 20 seconds to prevent the chocolate from seizing or burning.
  2. Prepare the filling – Whisk the melted chocolate mixture with the remaining wet ingredients. Then, stir in the pecans and remaining chocolate chips.
  3. Bake – Pour the pie filling into a thawed pie crust, and transfer it to a rimmed sheet pan. This helps catch any spills! Bake until the filling is fully set around the edges and the center is puffed.
  4. Serve – Let the pie cool at room temperature. Then, slice and enjoy the pie on its own or topped with mascarpone whipped cream or vanilla ice cream!

Tips

  • Use a deep-dish pie crust. There’s a lot of filling in this recipe! A deep-dish crust gives it plenty of room and helps prevent overflowing.
  • Don’t skip the sheet pan. Placing the pie on a rimmed baking sheet before putting it in the oven makes it easier to transfer and catches any filling that might spill over.
  • Watch for doneness. The pie is ready when the edges are fully set, and the center is very puffed. Don’t worry if the center deflates as it cools. That’s completely normal!
  • Let it cool completely. Allow the pie to cool at room temperature for about 2 hours before slicing. This gives the filling time to set so you get clean slices that hold their shape.

Variations

Make it Gluten-Free – Use your favorite gluten-free pie crust to easily make this recipe gluten-free.

Make it Dairy-Free – Swap the unsalted butter for your favorite dairy-free or vegan butter.

Add Maple Syrup – Replace 1/4 cup of the dark corn syrup with 1/4 cup of maple syrup for a hint of maple flavor.

Try Different Chocolate – Swap the semisweet chocolate chips for dark or milk chocolate chips to adjust the sweetness to your liking.

How to Store

Once completely cool, cover your chocolate pecan pie tightly or transfer individual slices to an airtight container. Store it in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.

Want to keep it longer? You can also freeze pecan pie for later! Wrap the whole pie or individual slices tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or airtight container. For the best flavor and texture, we recommend enjoying it within 3 months.

When you’re ready to serve, let the pie thaw in the fridge overnight. Enjoy it chilled or reheat it in a 300°F oven for 10-15 minutes.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen unbaked pie crust, in its pan
  • 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 1 cup dark corn syrup
  • 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 3/4 cups halved pecans

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Remove pie crust from the freezer.
  • Melt the butter and ¼ cup chocolate chips together in the microwave for about 1 minute, stirring every 20 seconds.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter-chocolate mixture, corn syrup, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and salt.
  • Stir in the pecans and remaining 3/4 cup chocolate chips.
  • Pour the pie filling into the uncooked pie crust. Place the filled pie crust onto a rimmed sheet pan to prevent spilling in the oven.
  • Bake for 60-65 minutes, until the filling is fully set around the edges and the center is very puffed. The center will deflate as the pie cools.
  • Let cool for 2 hours at room temperature, then slice and serve or refrigerate for later!

Notes

  • Ideally, use a deep-dish pie crust. If not, you may end up with 1-2 tablespoons of extra filling that won’t fit in the pan.
  • Want to use less corn syrup? I’ve also tested the recipe using 3/4 cup corn syrup plus 1/4 cup maple syrup, and it works perfectly!
  • Easily make the pie gluten-free by using a gluten-free crust!
  • Make a dairy-free pie by using dairy-free vegan butter
