Chocolate Covered Rice Krispies Treats
Ingredients
Rice Krispies Treats
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 Tablespoon maple syrup
- 3 cups rice krispies cereal
Dark Chocolate Topping
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips or semi-sweet
- 2 teaspoons sprinkles
Instructions
Make the Rice Krispies Treats
- Melt the butter in a sauce pan over medium heat.
- Once the butter is melted, add in the marshmallows, stirring often as they melt.
- Add in the vanilla and maple syrup, continuing to stir just until the marshmallows melt.
- Remove from heat and add in the rice krispies cereal.
- Gently press the mixture into a 9×9" baking pan lined with parchment paper, making sure not to press too firmly (so that it's not overly packed in).
- Refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
Make the Dark Chocolate Topping
- Melt the butter and chocolate chips in a small bowl in the microwave, 30 seconds at a time and mixing in between.
- Once the mixture is melted and smooth, remove the rice krispies pan from the refrigerator and pour the chocolate over them.
- Lightly smooth out the chocolate and add sprinkles (or toppings of choice).
- Place back in the refrigerator for another 30 minutes.
Cut the Chocolate Covered Rice Krispies Treats
- Remove the chocolate covered rice krispies pan from the refrigerator and transfer to a cutting board.
- Cut into about 12 rice krispies.
- Serve and enjoy!
