Ingredients

Here are a few notes about the ingredients that you’ll need for this easy and delicious pudding cake recipe!

Bourbon – Bourbon, or any type of whiskey, work great in this recipe. It adds a warm flavor with notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak. So good!

TIP: Want to make this non-alcoholic? While the alcohol in the bourbon is cooked out of this recipe, you can also use this alcohol-free bourbon instead!

Brown Sugar – The brown sugar in this recipe adds to the warm flavor of the bourbon sauce. Regular sugar is used in the cake recipe, however!

Maple Syrup – Sweet and delicious, maple syrup is a core part of the bourbon sauce that’s poured over the pudding cake, creating a sweet, caramelized effect.

Butter – Melted or lightly melted, butter also adds a flavor that’s like unlike any other and brings this cake recipe together.

Milk – Whole milk is best, but any type of milk works great in this recipe!

Flour – All-purpose flour is recommended, but you can also fully or partially substitute almond flour if you’re looking for a gluten-free option.

Cinnamon – Ground cinnamon is a total must in this recipe!

Pecans – Top this Maple Whiskey Pudding Cake off with halved or chopped pecans to really take things to the next level!

Hi! I’d like to make this for our Christmas party! A couple questions: 1. which bourbon or whiskey seems to go best? We have Makers Mark and Jameson on hand. 2. Have you made this ahead of time and cooked later? I’m wondering if I can prep everything in the morning, refrigerate it, and then bake it later after dinner so it’s freshly baked for dessert.

Hi Angela! Either bourbon or whiskey works great. We’ve never tried making it ahead of time, so can’t say that we would recommend it. However, you could mix the dry ingredients and have your liquid ingredients measured out and ready to go that morning! The prep time is actually pretty quick and effortless, the bake time is what takes the longest. I hope you enjoy the recipe!

When you’ve got a gallon of bourbon, want some sweets, and rocking a steady buzz at 2 in the morning, this cake is easy enough to throw together. I didn’t even have to worry about driving, had all the ingredients in my pantry already, besides the bourbon, that was in my room. When all was said and done I had a piece with a cup of coffee (heavy on the bourbon), and ooooohweeeeee was it well worth it, needless to say cake is better when it’s drunk too!
