What You’ll Need

You only need 4 simple ingredients to make this recipe, then the chocolate of your choice and sprinkles (or any other toppings). We love how easy this recipe is!

Chocolate Truffles

  • Dark Chocolate – chopped into small pieces
  • Heavy Cream
  • Butter
  • Vanilla Extract

Chocolate Topping

  • Dark Chocolate – or any type of chocolate you like! Milk chocolate and white chocolate work, too.
  • Coconut Oil – to help melt the chocolate (and makes for the perfect magic shell).
  • Holiday Sprinkles
  • Flaky Salt (optional)
  • Any other toppings! See paragraph below for ideas.

How to Make Christmas Chocolate Truffles

Here’s how to put this easy holiday treat recipe together:

  1. Heat heavy cream and butter until hot (but not boiling), then add chocolate and stir until melted.
  2. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
  3. Roll the chilled mixture into balls and place them on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  4. Melt chocolate and coconut oil together, stirring every 15 seconds until melted.
  5. Coat each truffle in the melted chocolate, top with sprinkles or flaky salt, then freeze for 15-30 minutes before indulging!

Other Chocolate Truffle Topping Ideas

  • Crushed Candy Canes: Add a burst of peppermint flavor and a festive red-and-white touch.
  • Chopped Nuts: Roll your truffles in finely chopped nuts like pistachios, almonds, or hazelnuts for a crunchy coating.
  • Shredded Coconut: For a tropical twist, coat your truffles in shredded coconut for a snowy effect.
  • Edible Gold or Silver Dust: Give your truffles a touch of glamour with a sprinkle of edible metallic dust.
  • Crushed Cookies: Roll your truffles in crushed holiday cookies like gingerbread or peppermint cookies for added flavor and texture.
  • Cocoa Powder with a Dash of Cinnamon: Keep it classic with a dusting of cocoa powder, and add a hint of warmth with a touch of cinnamon.
  • Freeze-Dried Fruit Powder: Crush freeze-dried fruits like raspberries, strawberries, or blueberries for a burst of fruity flavor and vibrant color.
  • Chopped Dried Fruits: Finely chop dried fruits such as apricots, cherries, or cranberries for a sweet and tangy topping.
  • Chopped Pretzels: Combine sweet and salty by rolling your truffles in finely chopped pretzels.
  • Sprinkles in Holiday Colors: Choose holiday sprinkles to add a playful and colorful touch!

How to Store Christmas Truffles

Store these truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 7-10 days, separating layers with parchment paper to keep them from sticking. If storing for an extended period, you can also place them in the freezer! Frozen truffles can be stored for about a month. Before serving, allow the truffles to reach room temperature for the best flavor and texture!
